This new series represents both an intentional and accidental evolution of my earlier work. While mixing my paints in plastic containers, I happened to glance down at the palette and noticed a face emerging. That moment sparked the idea of peeling the paint from the container to create a figure. I’m excited about this new direction in my figurative work, as it maintains the integrity of my ongoing themes of women’s empowerment while presenting figures that are more mysterious, ethnically ambiguous, and nuanced. As humans—especially women—we are complex, and this work seeks to capture that essence.
